Dear all,
I am planning to spend 10 days in Scandinavia from April 1 to April 11. I will be arriving Helsinki.
I just started doing research and one of the attraction which interested me most is the Aurora Borealis.
I read about the website and it said it%26#39;s possible to see it from sept to april:
…about.com/od/…scantopattracts.htm
However, what%26#39;s the best place (higher chance) to see this Phenomenon? Can anyone give me some advice on which cities I should go? Then I will plan my trip accordingly. Denmark, Norway, Sweden are all in consideration.
Thanks so much for your help!!!

I think your chances are so slim that there%26#39;s little point of making all your plans around it.

You need to go pretty far to the north, in Helsinki the chances are close to none. (I%26#39;ve never seen.)
If you plan to go to the Arctic Circle or further north, your chances to see aurora borealis increase considerably. Eg Tromso in Norway is good in this respect.
April is not by far as good as mid winter months, but not totally hopeless.

I have lived in southeastern Finland half of my life and have seen it about five times. One doesn´t count because it really is no big deal even though it does feel magical the first time. To make surer you´ll really have to go up north.
Good luck!

I am wondering what%26#39;s the chance for seeing the Aurora Borealis in Tromos during the early April? If it%26#39;s like %26gt;50% then. I understand that there is no gurarntee, but I will probably plan a trip there. :)
thanks all for your answer and help.

Tromso is a nice town and worth a visit anyway. It has good connections from Oslo.

thanks all for your helpful information. I start planning my trip now ;)

Tromso is so far in the north that in April the time when you can actually even dream of seeing the northern lights is getting very short as the daylight increases rapidly from late March onwards (by late May there%26#39;s no darkness left at all...)
Anyhow, Tromso is located in the area where it you will have the highest probabilities for seeing the northern lights. But it%26#39;s pure luck. If the weather is cloudy you simply cannot see them, and you might have bad luck and they will just not appear even if the sky is clear. I have lived in northern Finland for 20 years and I have seen them practically every winter (sometimes also in August when the nights are already dark) but usually only a couple of times a year.
