I heard Helsinki and Finland is renowned for its design culture. Alvar Aalto and Marimekko are two names that I recognize.
What are some design souvenirs that I should pick up from Helsinki next month?

Pohjoisesplanadi is lined with design shops and this street is slap bang in the middle of the tourist area as its the most attractive route to the seaside market of Kauppatori. Marimekko has two shops along this street if it%26#39;s sixties-style textiles you%26#39;re after.
Aalto was mostly known for his architecture (and you won%26#39;t be able to get his buildings in your suitcase), but he also created a lot of furniture (ditto) and smaller items such as the famous Aalto vase, which is on sale pretty much everywhere. If design is your passion you will find a lot to attract your attention on Pohjoisesplanadi. It%26#39;s also worth crossing the street to Eteläesplanadi on your way to Design Forum and museum of design.
The glass department in the Stockmann department store (top of Pohjoisesplanadi, corner with Mannerheimintie, easy to find) has a lot of beautiful and handy souvenir items, including the Aalto vase in various forms.
For crafts, there is a lot of stuff worth looking at on sale in Kauppatori market.
