I am visiting Helsinki for 1 day as part of a cruise with 2 children aged 10 and 12. What would you recommend we see and do?

Depends slightly on the arrival and departure times, but for kids e.g.
- Linnanmäki Amusement Park http://www.linnanmaki.fi/en/linnanmaki
- Korkeasaari Zoo korkeasaari.fi/services/visitorinformation
- Suomenlinna Sea Fortress http://www.suomenlinna.fi/index.php?lang=eng

England has better amusement parks and zoos. You%26#39;d be better off taking them to something they can%26#39;t see anywhere else. Suomenlinna is a unique place and there is a small beach there, popular with kids, making a handy site for a picnic. Point out the little islands on the horizon where the combined British and French fleets gathered to bombard the fortress and it might impress them.
One sure-fire treat for kids if the weather%26#39;s fair is Seurasaari, an open-air island museum filled with old houses from around the country. Take some peanuts as the local red squirrels will eat from your hand. A few children find this terrifying, but you know your kids best - decide accordingly. Bus 24 from the Swedish Theatre (round, white building at the end of Esplanadi Park away from the sea - easy to find).
The sea tours operated from Kauppatori quay might be good, but pick a shorter one in case they get bored.
