Would Santa C Village make a 9 yrold sceptical about F.Cmas?

Hi there

We are considering driving to Rovaniemi for a day from Oulu. We have a 8 %26amp; ½ year old son and 7 year old daughter. They both still believe in Father Christmas but the elder is a bit sceptical. Would a visit to Santa Claus village send him in the direction of realising that there truly is no FC %26amp; that its his parents? ie how real / tasteful is it? They talk of elves, I assume these are also little people dressed up ?? You are probably laughing as you read this .. but you must apprecaite my dilemma:)

I think perhaps we are just stuck at the wrong age where our children are not young enough to be wowed by everything, finding it magical, and not old enough where they know its not true but still enjoy it.

Please anyone who has visited with similar aged children give your thoughts. Did the trip make your children not believe faster if they were around this age.

We are planning on going late August.

If we don%26#39;t go to the village (which I think is most likely) we would like to see a reindeer farm or other things that are of interest. Perhaps huskies .. or are such places only open in winter? What would you do for a full long day? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. We also want a sign that we have crossed the arctic circle to take a photo for the children for school. Is there such a sign??

Thanks-you for your help as always. I find trip advisor to be fantastic !

If I had a 9-year-old and he wasn%26#39;t sceptical about FC, I%26#39;d be worried! This is bound to come, and I%26#39;m afraid the likelihood is he%26#39;ll share his doubts with his little sister. Even at age 7, a lot of kids like to feel the Santa thing is beneath them. From that point of view, it might be wise to give the grotto a miss.

The Arctic Circle is prominently marked on the main route north of Rovaniemi and there are plenty of photo opportunities there.

Reindeer are domestic animals and you will see them in rather the way you see cows in more southerly parts of Europe. Huskies are unemployed in the summer months are no more worth looking at than any other dogs.

If you are lucky with the timing the autumn colours will be hitting southern Lapland and the countryside will be an earthy rainbow of rich russets and browns. Stop along the way and enjoy the scenery.

My children were 7 and 9 when we last took them and the 9 year old was very sceptical, but it was thanks to f.c there that she believes in him x

It helped that the f.c there was the same as the one who visited us at the hotel on xmas day. It totally convinced her as he was the same everywhere!

Now this year we are going back and I%26#39;m terrified it will be a different santa!!lol

If I were you I would not skip the Santa Claus Village. Especially beacause nowadays the sign for the Arctic Circle is in the yard of the Santa Claus Village in front of Santa%26#39;s Office.

Santa%26#39;s Office and the visit to the Santa is very tastefully realised and most kids enjoy it (and adults, too). You should plan about 2 hours for the visit to Santa (maybe a bit more if you ought to visit also the Husky park and Reindeer farm that are in the vicinity of the Santa Claus Village (couple of hundred metres).

Do not miss Santa%26#39;s Main Post Office in the Santa Claus Village, either.

Another place worth visiting is the Arktikum museum/science centre.
