A week in the Kajaani area

Hi there

We are considering staying for a week in a gold crown resort Holiday Club Katinkulta near a town Vuokatti which appears to be near a bigger town called near Kajaani. The resort looks lovely, and we are really just wanting a break, time to walk, enjoy the scenery and the environment. Possibly swim, and just explore the area. We have RCI points so it makes sense to use them to save on the cost of accomodation. We will be based in Stockholm for 3 months whilst my husband is working on a project and want to explore another Scandinavian country on holiday.

I assume we would need to fly to Helsinki or take the ferry and then get to Kajaani.

Firstly how would we get to Kajaani from Helsinki? , are there trains/flights? If we were to drive how long would it take?

Secondly what is there to do in the area around Kajaani?

Thirdly would you recommend this as a scenic %26amp; friendly area of Finland.

We have a two children aged 6 and 8.

I will also post this on the Kajaani forum but it has only had one post ever - so please would some kind people reply %26amp; assist us :)

Thanks for your help

You might find it more fun to take the ferry to Helsinki or Turku. The island scenery is quite something. From there you could take a train (http://www.vr.fi/eng/) but it%26#39;s quite a distance to Kajaani. From Helsinki you could fly with Finncom, for example. http://www.fc.fi/

Kajaani has little in the way of sights and they are mostly of interest to Finns, but the area is scenic and very Finnish - meaning lakes and forests. http://www.kajaani.fi/Matkailu/Englanti/

Hi!

Firstly, Club Katinkulta in Vuokatti is a wonderful choice. Probably the best resort in Finland! There is so much to do - either indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. Also the surroundings are beautiful - you will find enough to do even without going to Kajaani (which is not particularly interesting place).

Do you plan to have a car or not? You can manage without but if you have one you could also see around in Finland. E.g. the lake area around Savonlinna is very beautiful and there are also nice cities if you drive from Turku or Helsinki to Vuokatti.

The easiest way is to book flights from Stockholm to Kajaani (over Helsinki). There is bus transportation from Kajaani airport to Vuokatti and in Vuokatti area you can really manage even without a car.
