Levi Prices

Hi there i fly out with my girlfriend on sat 10th jan , just wondering if any one can shed light on prices ie

average eating out??

beer??

food from supermarket??

how do they compare to uk prices

Just wondering how much money we will need

|||

Very expensive. take of loads of money it was pretty much £1 to 1 euro whilst we were there (17 - 21 december) supermarket still made marks and spencers look cheap! 4 cans of coke = £5 in the supermarket. cheapest bottle of wine in off licence was £7. tub of butter 2.3 euros, tube of pringles 2 euros, a burger in the rolls burger bar came in at just under 3 euros for the cheapest. we tended to eat in our hotel as had half board and we found the cheapest food there at 5 euros for a cheese and tomato pizza. cant tell you about the beer but we went to bar with our tour operator one one night and it was 30 euros for the cheapest bottle of wine and 6 euros for a cider! There did seem to be quite a few places to eat out so imagine that someone will be along soon who has a better idea of the eating out prices. Am sure there are a few reasonable (for levi) places to eat- there seem to be load of places to eat. would say that despite the prices we are thinking of going again! ( will take lots of snacks in our cases next time and a loaf or bread - over 2 euros a loaf!) some of the ready meals were more comptitive - single portion lasagne 3 euros.

it%26#39;s mentally priced out there, hope you%26#39;ve got a deep pocket, i would estimate that things there are just under double the price they are here.

|||

I always take as couple of bottles in my case medicial purpose of course.

Along with plenty of chocolate %26amp; Pringles.

Just fill up with hotel breakfast in the morning.

Don%26#39;t worry about prices, just enjoy the time up there it goes to quick.

We got back from levi on Sunday night (it was our 3rd time) and prices seem to have gone up MASSIVELY.

If you have never been before, just imagine going into your local Spar or Co-op and everything being 3 times the price.

Walking into any pub in the UK and prices being 2/3 times as much.

A shot of Sambooka (£2.50 in UK), a massive 10 euros in Finland (£10 at current rates).

Burger and fries for a family of 4 at ski slope 8, can easily set you back 45 euros, add a pint to that and you are talking £50 for what would cost you £12 in McDonalds (minus the pint).

The problem is, as well as the £ being hammered in the exchange rates, so 1 euro is 1 pound, Finland seem to have also increased prices based on the %26#39;credit crunch%26#39;.

Levi supermarket, is purely based around taking advantage of tourists, and charge accordingly. The excuses from holiday reps and some Finnish, is the cost of importing, and the likes, which is absolute nonesense. I mean how on earth can you charge 2.8 euros (almost £3) for about 10 pringles in a small container?

Very, Very expensive place, almost to the point of being comical, like somebody has thought of a number and whilst laughing, they tripled it for a laugh!!

for this very reason were taking loads of stuff with us including a cool bag with the butcher kindly vac packing ...sausage bacon ...steaks..burgers..chicken fillets ect for us....also taking tea coffee hot choc....cupa soups..pasta then all we need to buy is beans pop and veg/fruit bread....i dont mind paying what the locals are having to pay however if we can save some then we will....were not drinkers so that isnt a worry to us....but we solve two isues taking our own stuff... save money and we know what our little fussy eaters will enjoy...

were also taking cooked meats ...

|||

That is a good idea - are you allowed to take meat with you then? If so then I will do this myself. Do you know what the rules are on taking it?? Im going for 2 weeks and those prices sound scary! A few burgers and sausages would be fab to take

Actually i know of people who were skiing in Italy and Austria and the prices there were more expensive than Lapland!!

We mostly ate on the restaurant at piste No 8 and a burger deal-Huge burger, fries and a coke were aprox 8 euros..I didn%26#39;t think this was terrible a coffee or hot chocolate was around £2.50.

Some things in the supermaket were dearer,but no dearer than southern Finland..so I don%26#39;t think Lapland itself is inflating prices!

|||

aparently so as long as it is not for resale....some we know have taken joints of beef ect....

|||

I was thinking maybe it is a bit cheaper to go shopping in Kittila village. Supermarkets and other shops there serve local people and might be cheaper. The distance is 20 km to south. Bus ticket to Kittilä is about 4,80 euro one way. Unfortunately there are not that many busses per day.

It is still 32 euros (at least), which is £32 for a Mcdonalds equivalent, which is nearly 3 times the amount, and this was the point I was making. X that by 7 days on the slopes, 7 days shopping, 7 days eating out, because let%26#39;s face it you are on holiday, and a couple of nights in the bar, where buying a pint and a vodka for the other half costs 12 euro%26#39;s (£12 a round - £20 a round with 2 cokes for the kids), and you see the expense. £100 a night just for a few drinks, and that is before a few snacks on gold-plated pringles, etc.

Don%26#39;t get me wrong, we love Lapland, and have booked our 4th trip next year for 2 weeks, but the question was asked about expense, and it most definitely IS very expensive, with over-inflated prices.

Although, to be honest a large portion of this is due to the extremely poor way our UK economy is run, with large debts, etc. which is effecting the value of the pound.

When we first went to Lapland 3 years ago, we got 1.45 euro to the £, so it was not so bad, but now you REALLY notice the difference.

What will it be next year? 0.70 euro to the £ or less? costing £7+ a pint, or £60-£70+ for a couple of burgers and fries?..

Just be careful with the prices, if on your first trip, and enjoy yourself :-)
