Can anyone suggest possible day trips please - we were thinking of Hanko and Tampere. Any other suggestions welcome. Would the lake district be too far for a day and if so where would you suggest staying overnight. Thank you.

Porvoo and Turku are also within an easy reach by car. To get a proper glance of the lake district you should stay over night there. Good places could be e.g. Savonlinna and Punkaharju and other places in that area.

I would recommend Hanko and Porvoo (nice small towns with a lot of nice wooden houses) and Turku (which used to be our capitol long time ago)

Agree with the other posters about Porvoo.
How about going to the idyllic Fiskars Village to the west from Helsinki? There%26#39;s also Billnäs village near by - another beautiful old ironworks town.

They both are located in the newly formed city of Raasepori (Rsseborg in Swedish).

Those places can also be visited in combination with Hanko, since it%26#39;s in the same direction, about half way there.

Thanks for these suggestions. We will have a car for one week so we should be able to get to all these places. We have visited Tampere previously but only by train. We plan to go there next month by car. Any suggestions of other nearby places of scenic interest whilst we are in that area%26gt;
Thanks

For a trip to the lake district I%26#39;d recommend an over night stay.
You could head to Lappeenranta and Savonlinna, both very scenic by the lake and possibilities for nice tours on a ship.
You could return along The Green Gold Culture Road, finlandexpert.fi/files/343/SuomenMatkailutie…
one of the best routes in Finland for scenery.
