We want to travel in mid August. It looks as though we can only book through the online Vr booking system up to 8 weeks before we travel. but I think I read somewhere that sleeper berths can be bookd up to 12months ahead.
Can/should we book our train %26amp; sleeper tickets now %26amp; if this is possible how do we do so, or do we have to wait til 8 weeks before we travel? (we are UK based)

Why do you want to book so early? I don%26#39;t think the train will be that crowded. The main Finnish holiday season is in July. I would wait until shortly before travelling. I would leave it until the day before, but then again I like to make last minute plans. A week or two would be more than enough time.

Not very busy in August - however do not leave booking sleeping berths until the last minute. But 2 weeks should be enough at that time of the year. During the skiing season in winter the night trains to Lapland are often very crowded.
Cabin berths can be prebooked 12 months in advance through VR Contact Centre, not through the online shop.
