Desperately need help for Lapland

I am looking to go to Lapland over Xmas. There are 3 adults and 3 children in our party. Lapland seems to be a bit of a nightmare to book. We are looking for something uncomercialised, in Log cabins for 4 nights where we can do a bit of everything but all trips etc have to be of good quality (ie not a quick 5 min huskie ride and get off again!). I also need good quality restaurants and a shop as my 5 year old is Diabetic and has Coeliac Disease. Please can someone help!? Thank you.

Look at Inghams - First Choice - canterbury travel - etc.

Saariselska seeme to be a %26quot;in%26quot; resort at the moment.

If you want longer trips - try and book a holiday where just accomodation and flights are included and book trips seperatley.

As taster trips are very shprt.

I am going 20 - 27 December with Inghams to Yllas Log Cabins. There will be 7 of us in total so I have booked a 4 bed cabin and have also booked all excursions through Inghams. I hope I have done the right thing. Too late now, it%26#39;s paid for!!!

Special diets will not be a major concern for you in the Finnish restaurants (or grocery stores). Coeliac disease is common here, too, and almost all restaurants nowadays mark glutenfree dishes in their menus (I assume that this is the main concern for you - as most diabetics follow normal well-balanced diet?).

Also all better stocked supermarkets sell glutenfree bread - at least frozen ones.

Great, thank you very much for your help.

You will have a fab time - look on www.laplandforum.com - you will see lots of pics and reviews of yllas on there , there is also pics of the local santa , you can even get him to do a private visit to your cabin.

Inghams are great value for money on the trips.

In the city of Rovaniemi, where the Santa Claus village is, you can find the nicest places to stay. I recommend Ounasvaaran Pirtit, very nice log cabins close to the Ounasvaara mountains, if you stay in Rovaniemi. If you plan on staying in Rovaniemi, you will find pretty much all of the special foods you need for the special diet.

Some words for the special diet:

vehnä, ohra, kaura, ruis (the basic grains not suitable for the people suffering of coeliac disease)

jauho (flour)

sokeri (sugar)

siirappi (syrup)

hunaja (honey)

riisi (rice)

maissi (corn)

tärkkelys (starch)

maltodekstriini (maltodextrine)

Hi Nikki

Just been reading your posts. We have been to Yllas twice and it the most fabulous place ever. Stayed in Snow Princess Hotel first time and in Villa Armas Cabins (near to Yllas Log cabins). Both holidays were brilliant. The log cabins were fantastic and so well equipped. There is an excellent super market in Yllas and a attached off licence (Alko) which sells some reasonably priced alcohol. We took quite alot of food in our suitcases including meat, dried food like pasta, noodles, soup etc. I think even with food intolerences you will find most of what you need at the supermarket. If you want to book any further excursions go to Snow Fun Safari (just down from the Snow Princess Hotel) they do good value snow mobile hire, trips etc. Hope you have a fab time - think you will be hooked like us when you have been once. Liz
