I just wondered if any of you know whether 28 days to wait for a refund is normal from first choice. We cancelled our lapland holiday as the company sent a letter saying the hotel had changed our board basis from full board to just bed and breakfast. NOT at all suitable for our needs so we were told we could cancel with no penalties. However as I paid cash I have been told I have to wait up to 28 days for the refund.
I know some of you have experienced cancellation before so just thought I would ask.

what difference does it make how you paid them?? you paid them they now need to give it back to you - I would question it as they are earning money from your money and if it is normal to wait 28 days I would ask why?

When we cancelled our first lapland holiday with first choice they said we would have to wait upto 28 days for a cheque to be sent but we got it within a couple of weeks.

I will have to give them another call as have been waiting now 19 days for a refund. IT%26#39;s over 3 thousand pounds so am keen to get it back asap.

I would follow up your call with an email just so you have proof that you have contacted them
Unfortunately consumer law is not on your side with this one as such - if you buy over the phone/net/magazine etc this is deemed as distance services and if you buy in this manner then refunds have to be given within 30 days
If you pay for something in cash in the store/travel agent etc then there is no consumer law stating a time scale as to when your refund has to be given by - but - most companies will have their own rules on refunds and as a consumer you can state a reasonable time for your refund, which would be in line with the distance services so 30 days is a reasonable time (not that I personally think it is, that%26#39;s way too long to take to issue refunds)
good luck and just nag them for it

Thanks for all your replies. I rang them again today and was told the same thing that I should allow 28 working days for the refund.
I was apparently told the wrong thing by the manager when she said they refund in 7-10 days.
Guess I need to be more patient. Not one of my good traits! :)
