Transportation from Helsinki Airport to Kurikka

I am arriving in Helsinki-Vantaa airport on a Saturday at 17:00 (5pm local time).

What is the quickest transportation from the Helsinki Airport to Kurrikka?

Will a 1-day car rental be cheaper than public transportation (train, bus, etc)?

My guess is that it will cost about the same. A small car + fuel will cost 150-180 €.

I%26#39;d definitely go for the car and skip all the hustle with the several connections you are going to have if taking the train. Half the way to Kurikka is along the best motorway we have. Airport-Kurikka is about 3,5 -4 hours drive.

There are only the following rental agencies available in Helsinki-Vantaa Airport:

Avis http://www.avis.com/

Budget http://www.budget.com/

Europcar http://www.europcar.com/

Hertz http://www.hertz.com/

Sixt http://www.sixt.com/

Just check the quotes on their websites. Notice however, that there might be a hefty surplus fee if you do not intend to return the car to the same agency where you rent it from.

No matter what, I guess you%26#39;ll have to return the car to a branch office of the rental agency or a hotel or an airport (the nearest branch offices might be in Seinäjoki where at least Avis, Europcar and Hertz have offices).

They seem to have an all-inclusive rate at HEL and the rate is the same as I will be dropping off the car at Vaasa Airport (closer to Kurikka).

Never heard of them - but at least they seem to be subcontracting well known brands (Avis and Budget). According to their website they are based in Ireland.

However, do compare the prices also on the rental agencies own sites, too.

Is there a %26quot;Finland Mapquest%26quot; to print directions?

I%26#39;d lie to know the quickest route to get from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Mieto, Finland.

I may not get a GPS. Just in case, I%26#39;d appreciate if anyone can help with directions from HELsinki to Mieto?

At least Via Michelin, http://www.viamichelin.com/ and Map24, http://www.map24.com/ contain Finnish maps. Also Mapquest has Finnish maps, but does not give directions.

Just for curiosity, did you already get a quote for the car rental?

Definitely I cheaper choice would be train from Tikkurila (10 min from Helsinki aiport) to Seinäjoki and then someone collecting you from there. There is e.g. a train leaving at 18:46, arriving at 21:04 in Seinäjoki. I would go for that.

Distance from Seinäjoki to Mieto is 38 km, maybe 30 min drive. Driving from Helsinki airport would take maybe 4.5 hours so it is even slower.

I doubt that fuel is included (you%26#39;ll have to return the car with a full tank or the rental agency will charge a hefty refueling fee from your credit card).

Current fuel prices here:

Gasoline (95 octan): ca 1.35 - 1.39 EUR/l

Diesel: ca 1.00 EUR/l

So, public transportation will defenitely be cheaper if you are only one person.
