Lapland%26#39;s Great For Holidays!

Temp can vary alot that time of year,We were in Yllas in february and had from -3 to - 28 that week.

Skiing in saariselka is more limited there than in Yllas or levi,But im sure for a 1st time skier and novice skiers there will be enough runs open.

If you are wanting more runs open that time of year then have a look at Levi,ruka or Yllas as they will have a lot more runs open there.

I havent been there yet but are going for new Year,Hopefully someone will come along and be able to tell you more about saariselka,the resort sounds lovely though.

Ski runs in Saariselka are ideal for beginners and intermediates with several runs over both sides of the valley. These should all be in use in Feb.We were there for New year and one side was completely open (up to the cafe on top) and the other side had some runs open and they were preparing others with snow canons. The area is rather limited for advanced skiers but then to compensate there is the longest toboggan run in Europe plus all the Lapland safaris that you wouldn%26#39;t get in an Alpine resort. Click on my earthtravelller name and you will find lots of information on Saariselka village that I given before.

great ty for the advice :)

Hi Rothlee

We are returning to Saariselka for the third time in February. Last year the temperatures were around -10 to -12 most days. It was -18 on the evening my daughter and I went on the reindeer ride and we were glad we had on several layers of clothing under the thermal suits we were provided with.

We only do cross country skiing and tobogganning so I can%26#39;t really help with advice about the downhill runs.

We have found Saariselka to be very quiet - not a lot of night life - and everyone is very friendly.

Hants,

have you ever stayed in the log cabins there ??????

|||

I was just going to post the same question kelly!

Hi Kelly and Bluny

Haven%26#39;t stayed in the log cabins, although they look very nice. We stayed in the Hotel Kieppi the first time and booked an apartment through the central reservation office last year and this. The only log cabins which were available were more expensive as they were larger and there are only two of us going this year. We also chose the apartments as we knew they were centrally located.
