Tampere in October

Hi,

I can get some cheap tickets to Tampere around 20th of October for 2 days.

I want to go with my family but they are not really snow en cold lovers.

How is the weather like around that time?

I have seen some weather tables but they do not give me a good understanding.

And is there still a bit to do for childern?

I guess the Park is somewhat open. But can we make a boat ride or are the lakes frozen?

Usually no snow in October, but it can rain. Some days can already be so cold that the rain might occasionally turn into snow or sleed.

Having snow in October in Tampere would be exceptional. Normally the temperature at that time would be around +5C. I am sure you find enough to do and see for two days here also for the kids. Welcome!

October and November are the worst in Finland, I really cannot recommend that time of the year for your family to visit Finland. Rainy, cold and many attractions closed during the off season (the lakes are not frozen, but no commercial boats trafficking either). If you are not interested in winter actitivies, I%26#39;d plan my trip for June to August.

Polarbear is right. I lived in Tampere for a couple of years, and it is far from at its best in October. Still, if you dress warmly there are things to do. Pyynikki tower will keep the kids amused for an hour or two, and you might find a stroll around the nearby district of Pispala (picturesque old wooden houses on a steep hillside over a lake) fun, too.

If the weather%26#39;s poor, I%26#39;m afraid it will be mostly museums.

Hi,

The weather can be working against you but still this is not a reason not to visit Finland in oktober. There are still enough things to do and we also have dry days.

There are some nice area%26#39;s that you could visit by foot or bike.

There is a public sauna near the lake and this is called Rauhaniemi http://www.rauhaniemi.net/english.htm

The other public sauna that I can reccomend is Rajaportti www.pispala.fi/rajaportinsauna/englanti.html

Both sauna%26#39;s are a little bit outside of the centre but you can walk towards them.

If you want to be more active during your stay you can rent a bike and explore the suroundings. One of the places where you can rent a bike from is www.eattampere.com

With the bike you can go to the Arboretum tampere.fi/english/…hatanpaa.html or

Another nice park to take a walk is Kauppi or pyynikki with the observation tower tampere.fi/english/…pyynikki.html

Other things to visit are the museums. Take a trip to vapriikki museum wich had loads of exibitions. More information on the website www.tampere.fi/english/vapriikki/index.html

I hope this gives you a little bit more information about this city and what to do here.

Greatings,

Michel Faas

Hi,

I go also to tampere in october and I have some questions:

- What are nice pubs/clubs?

- What is the price for a national beer in a pub or supermarket?

- How late will close the pubs/clubs?

- wich hotel is near by the pubs/clubs?

Tnx!

|||

- What are nice pubs/clubs?

I%26#39;ll let locals update you on this ;-)

- What is the price for a national beer in a pub or supermarket?

Bars, pubs, clubs, restaurants: 4 - 6 EUR/pint (0.4 - 0.5 l)

Supermarkets: depends slightly (although according to legislation shouldn%26#39;t) on the size of package. Cheapest usually in cases of 24 cans (0.33 l) when ca 17.50 - 21 EUR/case. Pint-size cans (0.568 l) usually approx. 2.70 - 2.80 EUR/can. Glass bottles have soon become extinct, beer is sold mostly in aluminium cans or plastic bottles, price of which include also a deposit (cans 0.15€, plastic bottles 0.10€) which is refunded when you return the cans or bottles to the shop intact.

- How late will close the pubs/clubs?

Until 4 a.m., last orders by 3.30 a.m.

- wich hotel is near by the pubs/clubs?

Any downtown hotel.

Tnx mate!

%26quot;- What are nice pubs/clubs? %26quot;

It depends - what are your criteria for %26quot;nice%26quot;? Eg. what kind of music? What kind of people? What kind of atmosphere?
