Planning to go to Helsinki for new year but wanna know first how much things cost! Went to Oslo earlier this year and couldn%26#39;t believe how much beer cost. :-(
How does Helsinki compare? Is it lively at New Year?

Basically the entire population is well pist by midnight on New Year%26#39;s Eve.
Helsinki is the cheapest Nordic capital for beer, but not particularly cheap. It%26#39;s nowhere near as dear as Oslo, though. You can get a beer in Helsinki city centre for as little as 4 euros (if you search hard enough) but this goes up to over 6 in posher places and will hit 7 before long.
A lot of younger people take a few swigs from a bottle before they go out to keep costs down. In fact, quite a few of them overdo it and are legless before they set out.

It%26#39;s not just the Finns. Quite a few of the tourists overdo it too. That scary looking drunk you saw stumbling around near the Hotel Vaakuna on his way to finish (no pun intended) off the evening at the 10TH FLOOR might have been ME!
