Sky Hotel Ounasvaara is part of Lapland Hotels chain, laplandhotels.com/EN/hotels/lapland-hotel-sk… .

It depends on your interests whether it is worthwhile renting a car. Sky Hotel is about 4 km from the city center. Roads are safe to drive and all cars have winter tyres. Of course there is snow and ice on the roads, but as long as you pay attention you will be fine. I recommend that you rent a four wheel drive. Check Europcar and Budget, both have rental at the Rovaniemi airport. http://www.europcar.fi/in_English.iw3 and http://www.budget.fi/index.php?sl=en .

There are several safari companies, but start with these: Safartica, www.safartica.com/pages/intro.php?lang=EN and Lapland Safaris http://www.lapinsafarit.fi/?deptid=20046

More useful information on Lapland at http://www.laplandfinland.com/In_English.iw3 .

And finally a restaurant tip. Try Nili, http://www.nili.fi/index_eng.html, which serves delicious Lappish food. It is located in the city center. Also Sky Hotel%26#39;s kichen is very tasty.

thanks

do you think it will be safer and cheaper to take taxis?

Taxi can be cheaper if you are not going to explore the surroundings. Taxi costs about 12-15 € from your hotel to the city center. Fares vary slightly according the weekday (weekend) and the time of the day. If you want to visit Arctic Circle there is a bus conneciton from the city center, but pricewise it is almost the same to take a taxi, which costs around 20 € one way.

Driving in ice and snow takes some getting used to. Also, snow tyres affect road handling even when the roadway is clear. Unless you%26#39;ve had more experience of driving in icy conditions than most Israelis, I would be careful of hiring a car.
