I%26#39;m in Helsinki for 24 hours from Saturday afternoon (on my way to Hong Kong) ---is there anything special happening in town this weekend? Where would you guys recommend a good, relaxed hangout spot for a solo female traveller, possibly to meet fellow travellers or try to coax Finns into small talk! :D
Are there any decent coffee places which are open til later in the evening? I don%26#39;t fancy going to a restaurant or bar or...god forbid, pick-up joint (!)

Hi,
Kauppatori , this wonderful market place is located on the waterfront and is the real hub or focal point of Helsinki. The array of fish stalls is clearly a visual delight, here locals and tourists come to buy fish, vegetables and fruit. There are also small stalls selling local handicraft and food.
This is a absolutely fabulous place to stroll around and the food on display is amazing, you can find just about anything here including reindeer, various weird and wonderful meat, cheese%26#39;s and small-goods.
Its also a place to pick up a take-away lunch if you are thinking of having a picnic in one of Helsinki%26#39;s stunning parks
Most of the island and canal cruises leave from the market square. You will find many different tour operators offering excellent variety of tours.
Have fun in Helsinki.
