Yllas or Levi

Hi there,

We are a couple in our 20s (no kids) desperate for a trip to Lapland in early December for 3/4 nights. We can%26#39;t decide on which resort to go for. We want to do all the activities like husky/reindeer rides, snowmobiling, possibly seeing the northern lights, but we also want a real Christmassy feel to our break, so Santa may be an option as well!

We%26#39;re thinking either Yllas or Levi. Yllas appeals a lot because of its setting, but I would like there to be a few shops for us to potter round in the resort to buy some Lapland gifts! I know Levi is bigger, but is it just for skiers?

Also, do you suggest we go for a tour with all the excursions included (eg. First Choice), or do it ourselves?

Any help appreciated!

personally I would recommend Saariselka as it is a good combo of both yllas and levi - chic little shops, nice places to eat etc

you will find that if you go early dec that you can get some great deals for a week - look on last minute . com

I would always go for the holiday and then book the trips with inghams, they are so much cheaper than a complete package

Both Levi and Yllas are great resorts, however, we prefer Yllas.

Levi is more built up than Yllas which is more of a traditional village.

If you swaying towards Yllas, you will find gift shops and a large supermarket, all of which sell many types of gifts. Both resorts offer all activities/excursions. Santa%26#39;s house is at the Lapp Village in Yllas too.

You are never too old to visit Santa !!

Going independently, we find, works out cheaper.

I have been to both resorts- I personally think Yllas is more spread out and more of a village whereas Levi is more of a town with a centre.. Levi I think caters more for the skiier. I also think Yllas gives you a better chance of seeing the northern lights- IF ...the conditions are right.

Both are beautiful places and the excursions will be very similar.

You will find Lapland a resort only for kids! Yes kids that range up to 100+

Adults tend to have so much fun here and Laplnd brings out the child in everyone! It really is a fantastic holiday destination I know you will enjoy!

Good luck in whatever you choose! x

Out of Yllas and Levi it sounds like Yllas is much more up our street, I will start having a look - is Inghams good for booking it independently?
