Kayaking Faroe

What is the Kayaking like up in Faroe?

Are there any organised sea trips around the Islands?

Very very dangerous.

The problem with the weather up there is that it can change very fast, so I dont think you would risk beeing caught out at sea in a small cayak

A lot of people have paddled in the Faroe Islands. See the DVD This is the sea 3. It will give you an idea of the type of weather conditions. A group of us from Ireland are heading there next July. Apparently seas can be very rough due to fast tidal streams and bad weather.

We paddled in the Faroes this June. Once we worked out the tides we had no problems. You would need to be at lease level 4 (4 star) paddler to paddle out around the cliffs and across to the Islands. In the sounds the tidal flow can be up to 14 knots. Fog can be a problem when crossing from one island to the next due to the ferries between the Islands. You need a tidal chart for the area.

The paddling is fantastic and we covered a lot of the islands in 12 days.
