We%26#39;re going to Helsinki on a day trip from Tallinn and will have about 6.5 hrs there.
We%26#39;re planning to start a walking tour of our own at Kauppatori, look at Presidential Palace and Upsenski Cathedral, go on to Senate Square, then see the Railway Station, walk along Mannerheimintie to see Parliament House + Finlandia Talo, then detour to see Temppeliankio Church, back to Mannerheimintie to see Ooppera Talo, finally detouring to Sibelius Park. Thought we could then get the No. 24 bus back from Sibelius Park to Mannerheimintie / Phjoisesplanadi and then maybe walk to Kavivopusto Park and back to the ferry terminal. I know there%26#39;s the hop on/off Tram 3B/3T, but thought it might be more straightforward to walk the shorter distances at least. Will this be do-able in the time we%26#39;ve got plus allowing for stopping for light refreshments (and possibly getting a bit lost!)?
Also, is it worth going to one of the flea markets? If so, which one?
Thanks for any help/suggestions with itinerary!

I think it sounds doable. Wishing you luck with the weather conditions! No opinion about flea markets ´cos I haven´t visited them myself.

Hi,
if you`re arriving to Katajanoka or Olympia terminal, then it`s ok to start with the Market Square, Uspenski Cathedral, Senate Square, Central Railway Station, in this order every sight is located I guest not more than 10 minute walk from each other considering you are not jogging from one to other. Between the Uspenski Cathedral and Senate Square OR between Senate Square and Railway Station I would suggest to take a walk along Aleksanterinkatu and Pohjoisesplanadi, Eleläesplanadi - will be a nice walk really especially on a sunny day.
However I would rent a bicycle or take a ride with 3T/3B tram to get to Temppeliaukio Church and Sibelius Park and Monument. When you walk out of the tram at the Opera House you can walk then to Sibelius Park with Monument, it will take then about 15-20 minutes to walk or so.
Kaivospuisto you can leave as a final stop as it is really near both Terminals especially to Olympia. The EIRA quarter is also nice to walk to, but ONLY if you really have free time left.
Helsinki is a really nice city. Enjoy it!

Thanks for your feedback,ivijunior. We%26#39;re planning to take Lindaline%26#39;s Superseacat from Tallinn, which I believe docks at Makasiinterminaali South Port in Helsinki. How long would it take to walk from here to the Market Square?
|||
Makasiiniterminal is right next to the Olympia terminal so the distance to Senate Square is about 10-15 minute walk.

%26quot;see the Railway Station, walk along Mannerheimintie to see Parliament House + Finlandia Talo, then detour to see Temppeliankio Church, back to Mannerheimintie to see Ooppera Talo%26quot;
Railway Station is being renovated so it will not be at it%26#39;s best.
I%26#39;d do: along Arkadiankatu to Temppelinaukio Church, then Parliament House + Finlandia Talo in that order due to geography
Otherwise your plan sounds good.6,5 hours is quite enough.
Makasiiniterminaali has ideal location, it%26#39;s just 5-10 mins from the Market Square.
Flea market? The best would be at Hietalahden tori, at the far end of Bulevardi. If you take the bus to Erottaja, you can switch to tram and ride right there. There%26#39;s a lot of stuff there (weather permitting) and if you in general like flea markets you%26#39;ll find this OK.

Thanks for your suggestions,guys.
By the way, where is the Eira quarter?
|||
Eira is located about 1.5 km from Kaivopuisto.
I personally liked the walk through it.
|||
%26quot;By the way, where is the Eira quarter?%26quot;
It%26#39;s the area about inside Merikatu, Tehtaankatu and Huvilakatu.
|||
The Eira district is interesting if you like Art Nouveau architecture or small speciality shops. Otherwise it doesn%26#39;t have a whole lot to offer. Given your length of stay, I%26#39;d say give it a miss.
