We are a family of 4 ( 2 adults, a 5 year old and a 2 year old) and I am trying to buy tickets from Helsinki to Rovaniemi and back. On the VR site - it gives me th option to buy a family ticket and then I can select berths or cabins. Which should I pick? What is the difference? There%26#39;s also upper and lower cabins - whats the difference in those? Each cabin seems to sleep 2 - does that mean we need two cabins? Or can our family with 2 little kids all be in 1 cabin?
Sorry for all the questions but this is all a bit confusing.

It should answer most your questions. If you need further clarification and/or definite answers you can contact VR:

If you want to save money you can stay in one cabin only but in these new sleeping cars there are only two beds so you need to share them with the kids. This way (without own beds) the kids travel completely free. If you want to have beds for everyone then you need to buy two cabins, and also buy train tickets (half price) for the kids.

Thanks for all the info. We have made reservation but still need to buy the tickets when we get there. When we called the Railways - they recommended that we get the Holiday pass since that gets us 4 tickets( our entire group consists of 4 adults and 3 kids). So does that mean that we buy ONLY 1 holiday pass and that would get us 4 tickets for all 4 adults and the kids travel free for every leg of the journey? Or do we need 4 holiday passes - 1 for each adult?
Sorry if the questions sound dumb but what the site says can be interpreted either way!
Thanks for all your help.

I´m not sure abvout holiday pass, but you get 1 kid free with 1 adult when you bu a family ticket.

Kids under 6 years of age travel free without their own seat (with Family ticket also 6-16 year-olds can have a seat for free).
On the new doubledecker sleeping cars there are also cabins with an interconnecting door for families.

Every passenger will need his/her own Holiday Pass, it is a personal ticket with which one can travel on three days within a month.
