flying finnair and helsinki for the day

Hi

I am planning to fly from Asia to Europe with Finnair and would like to get some opinions on what their service is like ? - Has anyone flown with Finnair from Hong Kong to Helsinki. I%26#39;ve read reports on www.airlinequality.com - and they seem pretty standard..I find trip advisor forum%26#39;s much better. So any info anyone has would be appreciated.

I%26#39;d also like to know any suggestions on what to do in Helsinki for 24 hours . Arriving at 3.00pm and departing at 6.00pm the next day .

Thanks

Lots of people have flown HK-Helsinki with Finnair, me included. It is indeed pretty standard.

Look back at old postings in the Helsinki forum for info about a short stay. You are not the first to ask this question. Tons of information is just waiting for you!

Hi Currieinc.

I%26#39;m also from Sydney and have travelled twice from Asia to Helsinki with Finnair (and doing so again next month). The service was quite good, with pleasant hosties, nice food and what felt like a little extra leg space.

On the flight from HK, a hostess brought out arms full of stuffed toys and activity books for my children, so if you have kids they%26#39;ll get a little spoiled.

Finnair has a good safety record and I have heard that the HK service now has the new airbuses with the entertainment screens on the back of the chairs.

They%26#39;ve had these for quite a while.

And another thing - Finnair always performs well in comparisons of wine, and wine (and beer) is free on the flight. I find this a useful anaesthetic.

Hi Guys

Many Thanks for this feedback .. it%26#39;s really helpful as we have to pay for the trip next week and the saving is great.....

Appreciate you help and advise

Yep, the trip was fine with them and they did have the wine and the screens in the seats. At Helsinki airport we did find the airport staff service pretty rude and rough as we were bundled along from our flight to transfer to a Finnair Moscow flight (including ID again, even though there was no other way we could have got in but from the HK flight).

So it would be good to go into the city instead - you might find like us that it reminds you a little of Sydney in the way it sits on the harbour with lots of coves and inlets - a delightful city, 24 hrs will be barely enough!

Your ID has to be checked as passengers without Russian visas would have to be returned at Finnair%26#39;s expense.

OK - but it wouldn%26#39;t hurt them to explain this (even a sign) instead of being so surly and rude - and people say that about Russians (but not so). We got a bad vibe about Helsinki as a result - thankfully our itinerary took us back there later when we saw the good side of a great city.

Wow, maybe you got them on a bad day. I%26#39;ve gone though Helsinki airport six times in the past two years, (including twice in transit going to/from St Petersburg) and I%26#39;ve always found the staff to be quite pleasant.
