I am planning to get married in Lapland in Dec 08 and can%26#39;t decide on the resort or hotel! It is likely that there will be a couple of children with us, 3 %26amp; 5 and both set of parents.I would be grateful of any info on Lapland weddings. Has anybody seen a wedding out there? Please help!

hi we got married in levi in december in a traditional kota. it was fantastic and recommend it to anyone, there was also someone getting married in the chapel maria and also the snowdome. depends what you are looking for. there was 12 of us 8 adults and 4 kids. stayed at hotel levitunturi not a luxuary hotel but catered for everything we needed ie swimming pool, kids play area, had our wedding meal there off the a la carte menu which was very good and were helpful to accomadate the time we wanted to eat, allowed us to have the restaurant to ourselves for a couple of hours.
now is the time to start planning, we started in february last year and everything went really well.
send me your email address if you want anymore info. we were in the same position and this forum was a great help.

Lapland - got back from our trip via canterbury tales for nearly £5000 for our four day holiday on the %26quot;in search if santa tour%26quot;
Mainly ok but dont be missold this holiday on the basis of expecting a totally non-commercial high quality holiday. The Search for Santa trip consisted of two days on a coach - not travelling through the woods via husky , reindeer etc as we were led to beleive -( in fact you are bussed to several locations then you get an 11 second - yes 11 second husky ride - then free time to play in the snow which is great but not worth £5k. ) Our hotel the Revontulli had fantastic cabins but was very run down and the food absolutely shocking - ( but great if you want to feed your kids the kind of crap mcdonalds stopped serving years ago - yep its that bad and I have photos to prove it ) The bulk of the holiday was fine and the ski runs behind the hotel were lovely - the final bit of the search for santa was great in a snowmobile up to a high fell - absolutlely superb - but didnt make up for the disappointment we had in the rest of the extremely overpriced and quite commercial feeling holiday.

Hi, we have just returned from our wedding in Levi last week, we were married in the St Mary%26#39;s ( St Maria ) Chapel. OK, we%26#39;re not particularly religious but there is a reason for this. Originally we were going to get married in a Kota in a civil ceremony but the Finnish authorities changed the rules on foreigners getting married in Finland. Basically civil ceremonies could only be conducted in the registry office in Kittila, not what we wanted. The alternative was to be married by Priest ( don%26#39;t get too hung up on the protestant/catholic thing unless it really troubles you, they%26#39;re is no such distinctions out there. Our Priest was a Lutheran Orthodox? ) Right, in order for the Finnish authorities to accept our application to get married in the church in Levi we had to provide proof of belonging to a (any) church congregation in the UK. This entailed me and the misses joining our local church and getting the minister to sign a letter saying that we belonged to the local church. Sorry if this seems a little long winded but it is a detail that we almost left to late assuming it was only trivial. Better to speak to your local church sooner rather than later and get all the paperwork in place long before you plan to get married.
Of course the Finnish authorities may have changed their stance on this again as we were told by our wedding planner that it had come around as a result of a shortage of people allowed to carry out civil ceremonies.
If you are looking for a wedding planner I can highly recommend Mikko Niemmalo (+358 40 344 7780)
of Wild and Free ( Finn Travel )
We had a group of 22 adults and 5 children ( 18 months upto 12 years old )
Half of us stayed at the Levilehto Apartments, the other half stayed at the Crazy Reindeer.
We were married in the Chapel at Levi ( opposite Zero Point ) and had our wedding meal and speeches at the Steakhouse, all of which was fantastic.
If you have any questions please don%26#39;t hesitate to contact me.
Good luck, all the planning is well worth it. We wouldn%26#39;t have changed a thing, it was magical.

I am also planning a wedding in Lapland for Dec 2008. I have decided to go it alone as all the UK Tour Operators were expensive and I wanted a week not 3 /4 days. We fly out on 22 Dec 08 and come back on 29. Fights booked on opodo cost £365 rtn from Manchester.
I have booked Snowland in Rovaniemi for the wedding on 27 Dec. It%26#39;s where 1st Choice do their Snowy Altar wedding.
I have a brilliant contact at FINTRAVEL who are arranging the wedding and our accomodation. The accomodation will be in Lodges and will cost about £450 per person for the week. All in all about £800 per person for the week !! 1st choice are charging £714 for 4 nights at the moment departing on 24 dec - but you can%26#39;t get married on 25/26 dec - so get married on 27th %26amp; fly home the next day ???!!!
For info 1 week with them over the NY is £1037.
The wedding will cost 2000 euros.
If you want any more info just email me and i%26#39;d be more than happy to help. Are you on the wedding ideas forum ? i have a thread on there.
Good Luck and have fun planning it all.
