View of Russia?

Do we get a distant view of the Russian coast on the Helsinki - Tallinn ferry?

If so, around how long in the journey.

Thanks

No. The Russian coast is a couple of hundred kilometres away.

No chance, I%26#39;m afraid. You can get see into Russia from Imatra on the Finnish-Russian border, but it%26#39;s not much of a view.

There is nothing to see at the Finnish-Russian border. What you can see is just the same as on our side: forest. Actually the area that you can see is old Finnish territory, which the Soviets took after last war - meaning it is not the real Mother Russia. If you go to Estonia and are desperate to see Russia you might take a train to Narva. There you have a view across the river to Ivangorod, which is Russia. But it is not worth the effor, I have to say.

Yep, nothing suggested looks worth the effort; was just curious, thats all - getting to %26quot;see%26quot; Russia for free :-))

|||

Right - it may just be a bunch of trees, but it%26#39;s cool to get even a glimpse of a new country. And after all, even the view from the Eiffel Tower could be dismissed as just a bunch of buildings.

If you go to Tallinn you can take a short ride from the center to a suburb called Lasnamäki. There you actually can have a real look at what used to be Sovjet Union. Higly suggested, just as an eyeopener.

After that Brooklyn looks very neat.

I think you mean Lasnamäe.

There are several areas of Soviet housing projects dotted around Tallinn. They have a reputation for being unsafe.

You can see the %26quot;Soviet wonder areas%26quot; safely aboard a tram, e.g. on line 1 Kadriorg - Kopli, or line 2 Ülemiste - Kopli. Or hop on bus 67 (Seli - Estonia) or 68 (Priisle - Estonia), both will go through Lasnamäe.
