Hi, I%26#39;m hoping to get some help on where to stay in Saariselka! The lapland forum has been of SO much help in us planning this holiday. A group of 6 of us are planning on going for a week in December this year to Saariselka to enjoy all the activities on offer and cross fingers for the northern lights.
We have transport covered and have been looking on saariselankeskusvaraamo.fi/pages/…home.php and have found lots of suitable accom in central saariselka and the fells area. Which is your preferred area to stay and why?
We are trying to choose between cabin/apartment/rowhouse accom around suopunkite road in the fells area and vahtamahtie road. Also trying to work out whether the fells area is really quite out of the way (and a long way to walk in very cold weather!).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you%26#39;re not going to rent a car for your holiday (i.e. rely on public transportation/taxis), I%26#39;d stay in the centre. All services and facilities will be then close by and no need to travel for eating out etc.

I would also go more in the centre, we were quite a way out towards the start of the suopunkite road and it was enough of a walk to the centre of town, the thing about the suopunkite road is that it curves all the way round so you could be anywhere on that road and you could be too far to walk
the town itself is wonderful and small so getting a place in the town itself will still be magical - these are the cabins we stayed in - the position was just right, detatched, quiet, surrounded by trees and just outside the town but close enough to walk
