we will be staying in katajanokka and since the children will probably be somewhat tired after having travelled, i am looking for a place to eat dinner near by, where we could walk to - easy, relaxed, openair, possible at the water front and good food.
does anybody have an recommendation?
and, from what time on do restaurants normally serve dinner?

Unlike some countries, there is no set time for dinner in restaurants in Finland.
Katajanokka is not noted for its open-air restaurants, but Sipuli has a small outdoor section by the water. The views of the Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral are better than its seascapes. On the pricey side. www.royalravintolat.com/sipuli/index_eng.asp
The best open-air eateries are on smaller islands than Katajanokka, I%26#39;m afraid, i.e., not within walking distance.

Scandic Hotel Grand Marina has an OK restaurant: scandichotels.com/Hotels/…
There%26#39;s also restaurant Jailbird in Katajanokka (located in a former prison that has been renovated into a hotel): http://www.jailbird.fi/index.php?set_lang=en

I maybe late, but there%26#39;s a nice restaurant on an island right next to Katajanokka. The name of the place is Savu (smoke in English), here%26#39;s the map: asrestaurants.com/FI/…kartta.html
Unfortunately the site is in Finnish only, but you can see the location on the map very close to Katajanokka. The island itself is also very nice for picnics and such. Have fun!

There%26#39;s a nice restaurant offering %26#39;al fresco%26#39; as well, Katajanokan Kasino. (It%26#39;s not a casino.) See: http://www.royalravintolat.com/katajanokka/
