Helsinki and Oulu

Hello,

I will be visiting Helsinki and Oulu on business and will have about 1-2 days of free time in each city. Can someone provide some recommendations for the most important sights to see in those cities in my limited time frame?

Also, I am planning to stay near the rail station in Helsinki as I%26#39;ve been told it is fairly central and has buses that frequently go to the airport. Can someone please let me know if this is a good choice?

Thanks!

Look back in the Helsinki forum. The main sights have been thoroughly covered there.

The rail station is within walking distance of most points of interest.

There are a few hotels near Helsinki central railway station: Holiday Inn, Hotelli Seurahuone, Scandic Simonkenttä, Sokos Hotel Vaakuna (there are two Vaakuna hotels named Sokos Hotel Vaakuna in Helsinki, the one with street address Asema-aukio 2 is closer to railway station) and Radisson SAS BLU Plaza Hotel.

Just a guestion of pure interest...

Nestorex, you wrote:

Where%26#39;s the other one located?

There is only 1 physical building where Hotel Vaakuna is located. This building forms a small block, so the Vaakuna may have more than 1 entrance, but nevertheless it%26#39;s the same building.

Giving hints would be easier if we knew when you are coming...

In Oulu I would recommend Scandic Hotel Oulu, the newest hotel in town, or Radisson Blu Hotel Oulu. Also Sokos Hotel Arina is a rather new place, and out of the three the most central by the pedestrian precinct Rotuaari. Scandic is only one block from the pedestrian street, Radisson is by the Market Place near the sea and river estuary.

Thank you for the information.

I am visiting in September.

Oops, my mistake! The other Sokos Hotel is not called Vaakuna, it%26#39;s called Sokos Hotel Helsinki. The address is Kluuvikatu 8. A very nice, central location, too.
