Hi,
1st trip planned to Helsinki.
Been reading the forum posts and it sounds like central/down town Helsinki is the best area to stay in.
Any suggestions for hotels in the £70 - £80 per night range?
I%26#39;ll be there for 3 days in August. Plan on doing a day trip to Tallin.
Obviously I%26#39;ll do the research closer to the time on sites to visit but want to book accomodation soon as the August bank holiday in the UK usually bumps the hotel prices up and room availability down.
Prefer to be in walking distance to major attractions.
thanks in advance!

There is no point in staying anywhere other than the centre. You%26#39;ll be able to walk to most sights from there. Try Omena, they%26#39;re cheap and in a decent location. http://www.omenahotels.com/frontpage
August bank holiday does not exist in Finland so it should make no difference to price or availability other than a tiny peak in Brit visitors.

Any Hotel Apartments in or around the city centre for 5-7 day rentals in a clean, safe and nice environment for a family of 4 (with 2 kids)?
Price not a factor.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi, I recommend StayAtHelsinkiParliament for the family. It is in the city center and feels just like a home.

Most hotels have quite good prices during the Finnish holiday season till about mid-August as business travelers are not occupying the rooms.
Check Scandic, Sokos Hotels and Radisson to name a few who have hotels right in the centre. Eg Scandic Simonkenttä is pretty decent.

What about apartment-style places like hotikotelli and others?
We%26#39;d like to have some space in an apartment-like setting and not be crowded in a 1-room hotel.
Thanks

Check e.g. Sokos Hotel Helsinki sokoshotels.fi/en/hotels/helsinki/helsinki/
They have combirooms (i.e. interconnecting rooms). It is in the heart of Helsinki.

I just returned from Helsinki and stayed at the Scandic Marski Hotel on Mannerheimintie, a major street. It is convenient to just about anything in the city as it is relatively small and you can walk to most places. The hotel is located across the street from Stockman%26#39;s, the big department store, and there are plenty of eating places all around. I got a good rate at the hotel, and sometimes when you stay on weekends the rates can drop considerably. The room was large and comfortable with very nice bathrooms (heated bathroom floors and towel bars.) The breakfast that comes with the rate is good, and there is free internet and printer in the lobby. I enjoyed my stay there and would return without question.

What other places can you suggest in Helsinki that is big enough for 4 with washer/dryer, since we will be there for 5-6 days?

Eurohostle has washer/dryer. There is a coin-operated launderette on the reception floor. The launderette has two washing machines, a spin dryer and a tumble dryer. Washing powder is sold in a vending machine in the lobby.
It is very basic accommodation, but gets pretty good rewievs for what it is.

The Hotel Vaakuna is right in the heart of the city, next to the train station where you can get the Finnair bus to the airport. You won%26#39;t need to spend money on a taxi and the location is central.
