west coast

What do you most highly recommend for a 2-3 day motoring trip from Helsinki to Oulu via the west coast?

What time of year?

What ages are your party?

What are your interests?

Turku, the oldest city in Finland (and the capital during the Swedish rule). Nearby Turku is a nice picturesque town of Naantali. Vaasa would be approximately in the half way between Turku and Oulu. You may want to drive also through some of the smaller roads closer to the sea than the main road 8. From the main road you cannot see sea at all. These smaller roads go from Kristiinankaupunki to Vaasa via Kaskinen and Närpiö and again from Vaasa to Kokkola via Uusikaarlepyy and Pietarsaari. The road between Pietarsaari and Kokkola is known as the 7 bridge road: http://www.7siltaa.com/eng/frameset1_eng.php

There%26#39;s even a suggested itinerary %26quot;Idyllic Wooden Towns%26quot; for the route Turku - Oulu: http://www.visitfinland.com/w5/index.nsf/(pages)/Idyllic_Wooden_Towns

We are coming at the end of August- 2 adults in our sixties who love to travel and see the sights of a new place while experiencing the locals and staying active.

Zam72- thanks for the info-will check the web sites for sure. Are we ok travelling without booked accommocations at the end of August? shall we try staying in one of the small villages?

End of August is well past the main vacation period here. Some countryside accommodations may be closed, but you shouldn%26#39;t have a problem if you%26#39;re reasonably flexible.
