Following an amazing holiday in Yllas last year we have just booked a return trip to Finland for the New Year. This year we will be staying at the Saariselka Log Cabins. We have a couple of questions and would appreciate any further advice on the area.
1. Is bedding provided in the log cabins if staying on a self catering basis?
2. Is there an area close to the slopes to store skis and boots overnight or is it necessary to take them with you on the bus back to the cabins each time?
Thank you for any help.

Hi
All the bedding and towels are provided in the Saariselka log cabins but you will need to make them up on arrival.
There is a ski and boot storage area in the ski hire shop which is right at the base of the ski slopes but cant remember the charge for storage.
It%26#39;s so much easier storing them there rather than having to carry them back to the cabins as the ski bus stops at the holiday club hotel and not directly near to the cabins.

Hi Mike and Katie,We are going to the Saaris cabins for new year too! They look really lovely and on the Lapland forum there are photos and reviews. Our first trip last year was to Phya which we loved.See ya there.xx

Thanks Bluny, storing skis etc at the slopes sounds great. Certainly would rather pay then trek back to the cabin with them!
Hi Mansfield, the cabins look wonderful, a real fairy tale setting. We already can%26#39;t wait for Christmas, just a big pair of kids at heart!!! Have a great time, maybe we%26#39;ll see you there to see in the New Year!

it is expensive to store your stuff at the slopes and there were no lockers from what I recall, they basically stored your stuff for you somewhere out the back and it was also expensive, very expensive, I can%26#39;t recall exactly how much but it was in excess of £100 for the 4 of us for the week and they would only take boards/skies/boots - they would not take helmets or bags etc
we stayed in the cabins and what we did was pull all our ski gear along in a sledge and take it with us on the bus and then tie it up at the slopes along with our ski bags then take it all home with us when we were done.
you will have to leave your walking boots at the ski centre under the benches, that%26#39;s were all the stuff is stored so take valuables with you
we also saw that the ski bus came past where the cabins were so you can catch the bus from there rather than at the holiday club so get the rep to give you all the info as the bus does one big loop - we only found this out on the last day
here%26#39;s a link to their website
http://www.skisaariselka.fi/en/
remember to take tea towels out with you and some dishwasher tabs, also tehre are no freezers in the cabins so if you are either taking frozen food out with you or plan on buying it then take a freezer bag with you and bury it out in the snow with your frozen stuff inside, don%26#39;t just bury the food out in the snow without being in a bag as the animals can get to it
also remember there are no ovens in the cabins - they are basic but fabulous and if you need stuff for them let the rep know, they will get some replacement stuff for your cabins.
one last word of advice, when we got to our cabins on the first night it was dark and very late, the bus drops you off at the top of where the cabins are and it%26#39;s a bit chaotic so you end up walking about trying to find your cabin number and the lighting outside if very dull, so have a torch with you so you can find your cabin as dragging bags around the place after such a long journey is no fun ... but the holiday will be ;-)

|||
