Has anyone stayed in the log cabins is Suomu? I%26#39;m going with my husband and two boys a week before Christmas 2008 and we are very excited! I was just wondering about whether they are as cute and cosy as they look and also about the location of the cabins to the hotel? Are the cabins in the woods?
Thanks - SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes!!!
I stayed in the log cabins at Suomu. We had our meals in the Arctic Circle hotel..but the cabins are dotted around the woods. They were fab...log fires, saunas etc. You could walk to the hotel but if you didnt want to, buses come round a pick you up from various bus stops (free)
The cabins are all different %26amp; you wont know what one you are getting till you get there. We had a 6 bedroom cabin...6 in the party (myself 7 5 children) so we all ended up with a bedroom each!!
Some of the cabins are log types, some are more chalet types, some are in little terraces, some are detached. All are lovely %26amp; the woods are soooooo quiet..i sat ouside one night and couldnt hear a thing...magic! the paths to the hotel are all lit with little candles dug into the snow...the bus stop ones were green LOL thats how you tell them apart. When you are in the cabins, you really feel that you are in the wilderness.
some cabins are very close to the hotel and others are about half a mile away.
Are you going with canterbury travel?

Hey snownosnow!
Thanks LOADS for this information - it sounds like you had a great time when you went! Yes - we are going with Canterbury Travel on the Delectable Lapland Tour and we are extremely excited!
Its great to get an idea of what to expect but also to hear that it sounds idealistic!!!!!!!!! Just hoping for lots of snow!
When did you go and was it with Canterbury on a Santa Trip?
Are you going to Lapland again this year?
Thanks for being so helpful and informative :o)

Hi Have just come across your posting on trip advisor. Am planning to take kids to Lapland this december before they get too old and my favorites at the moment are all trips through Canterbury Tales. Althoough not the cheapest some of the others seem a bit too commercialised and really want to be out in the middle of nowhere. Just wondering how you found them, how the trip was etc. Any info you can give me would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jenny

Hi there,
All I can say is that we went on the Delectable lapland two day, one night tour with Canterbury Travel and it was completely non-commercialised and magical. There was no stone unturned in terms of detail (even down to the chartered flight with %26#39;snowman boxed christmas lunch%26#39;) and the log cabins were ALL truly lovely and dotted about in the woods. We loved the whole experience and I would absolutely recommend the company and the extra money to take a trip with them.
Suomu is lovely, very quiet indeed and consists only of the hotel and the dotted cabins.
I had ALWAYS wanted to go and planned to take my children even before they were born so expectations were high - and completely met.
Its difficult to pin down one highlight......there were so many...the trip out to Winter Wonderland was just about the most christmassy, %26#39;at one with the elements%26#39; experience we have ever had.....and the reindeer ride through the woods to find Santa%26#39;s cabin was TRULY WONDEROUS....The children had lots of time with Father Christmas and he was completely authentic.
Don%26#39;t expect too much from the Hotel food - basic and hearty - which suited us just fine. This is apparently the norm in Lapland. There is a lot to take in in just two days (we felt shattered when we got home but thoroughly content) so if at all possible - go for a little longer.
The trip to Santa%26#39;s house on the arctic circle was also ACE - more commercial but just for a few hours and the childred LOVED tubing in the dark, on the colourfully lit track and then heading inside the ice cafe for cocoa..!
Honestly - wish we could do it all again and we intend to try to head out with last minute this winter - the place had such a %26#39;return%26#39; appeal!
If you do book Suomu - let me know as I have good webcam links etc so you can track the snow coming in as Autumn becomes winter :o)
