Noticed day cruises offered with a 4 hr stop in Tallinn. Is this sufficient to see the main sights?
Thanks

If possible, take the whole day. In 4h you can have a nice walk in the old town, though.

4 hour stop, yeah?
It takes like 15-30 mins off the boat and 15 mins to the old city and 15 mins back and you should be at the terminal some 30 mins before departure. So roughly you%26#39;ve already spent 1,5 hours out of your 4 hours. But yes, you%26#39;ll get a brief look of the old town.
Plan to go there in the morning and back in the evening, you%26#39;ll easily apend a nice day there. Do not eat int the boat save your money and spend it wisely in one of the many good restaurants in Tallinn.

Nah, take a fast ferry there and back and get more time in Tallinn. The slow boats are only good if you like the Finnish style (i.e., bumper car style) tango.

Just wondering whether it is worth buying Tallink ticket in advance on the internet. I am planning to take the first ferry to Tallinn and last ferry back to Helsinki on Sunday in August. I guess the real question, is how full can those ferry get, and how early I need to get to Helsinki ferry terminal?

The Tallinn ferries are very, very rarely packed out. I%26#39;ve had a problem only twice in many years of frequent travelling.

7 - 8 am departures from Helsinki and 5 - 8 pm departures from Tallinn may get crowded but otherwise there%26#39;s usually always space. However, paying for the trip only at check-in will cost a bit extra (5 EUR?), so you%26#39;d better book and pay it online at least a day in advance.

I would suggest you to buy the tickets if you want to leave at a fixed time. A couple of weeks ago we met a person on our boat who could not get on the earlier boattrip because he tried to buy the ticket from the harbor.
We also had the same problem when we went back on sunday because the boat we were planning to take was sold out so we had to go back on the slow boat.
Usualy though this problem is not happening a lot but better prepare yourself.
For traveling to Tallinn I suggest to stay a little bit longer if you don%26#39;t want to see everything in a rush. I went there for some days and was not bored this time. We rented some bikes at the traveller info tent and joined a tour around Tallinn. It was interesting to also see some sights that are not in the old town.

A couple of weeks ago, the Estonian Song Festival was on. That only happens once every few years. I had to take a later ship with a different company myself that weekend. As I said, it%26#39;s rare to have trouble getting on board.

I noticed that when I try to book via Tallinksilja.fi website, if I do one way ticket to Tallinn, it costs 35 Euros. However, if I book same day return (eg 10:30am ferry to Tallinn, 21:00 ferry to Helsinki), it also costs 35Euros. Is this right?
Also, would this discount apply if I buy it on the day, rather than like 2 weeks in advance?

Day cruises are often a lot cheaper than two one-way trips.
Currently Tallink has an offer where day cruises seem to cost 24 - 40 EUR/return while one-way fares are the same per way.
