Anyone gone camping here? Any tips ideas thoughts etc?

There are no public wilderness or common areas in the Faroes. As a consequence, camping is only permitted at designated campsites, usually in conjunction with a hotel or youth hostel. Moreover, it is not permitted to stay over night in your camping cars along the road, at rest stops, lay-bys or view areas. Be aware that many camping sites are designated only for tents. Because of the unpredictable weather even in summer, it is advisable to have sturdy, waterproof and windproof camping equipment. Fuel for camping stoves is available in the pharmacies, petrol stations and most larger shops.

have you actually gone there? what were your thoughts on camping?

Hi Aggie82
If you are the big outdoor person. You will love to camp there, but the weather can get extreme also during summer.
Your gear has to be tip top, otherwise forget it. You can easily risk that you leave your tent to go for at walk in what looks to be a beautiful day, but it can change in no time, so two hours later you can come back in a storm that had taken your tent and thrown it to sea.

didn%26#39;t even think of that. i am buying some good rain proof stuff so that shouldn%26#39;t be that big a problem. if you have any other tips please share. thanks again

Beautiful for a visit but trust me, don%26#39;t camp there! As other people in this discussion have said, sometimes you can leave your tent where you are, then an hour later it%26#39;d be thrown into the sea.

but is there any difference between what you mention about hte weather and the latter one in north scotland, or even in iceland where i currently live?
|||
ipsilon,
Not many people get to this forum (or Faroe) so I%26#39;ll give my opinion, not fact.
I suspect the weather in Faroe is liable to more change than you see in Scotland or Iceland and I think the winds can be much stronger more often.

you suspect?
is your suspicion based on a visit up there? or?

Part visit, part reading what others say about the islands where general comments about rapidly changing weather conditions and frequent problems casued by very high winds are regularly mentioned, part general geographical knowledge.
Whilst Faroe%26#39;s overall climate may not be that different to some coastal areas of Iceland and Scotland the islands%26#39; unsheltered position in the middle of the North Atlantic makes them particularly vulnerable to storm conditions.

I have lived in the Faroe Islands - believe me the climate is not to be compared with the more sheltered coasts of Island and Scotland
