I am visiting a friend in Finland later this year and looking for ideas for a gift to take to his 11 year old son.
When buying presents for relative%26#39;s children in the UK I like to buy books but not sure what level of English my friends son will be as I haven%26#39;t met or spoken to his son before (my friend and his son are both Finnish). Any suggestions for books or anything else gratefully appreciated.
Thank you for any help

He%26#39;s not likely to be reading books in English at his age. Something with plenty of illustrations might work, possibly a picture book of your part of England. This could pique his interest in travel without overwhelming him with text.

I guess he has started English at school at the age of 9, so he will not be very fluent.
Try something a bit more engaging than a book, if you want it to be loosely connected to England, try a WW II model airplane or Harry Potter PC game.

Something %26quot;Tolkienesque%26quot;, perhaps?
