Family day and night in Helsinki

Hi

We will be stopping in Helsinki for a night on our way back to Spain after a week in Rovaniemi in the first week of January.

Whats a cool thing to do, just after any suggestions? We have three daughters 15,9 and 6.

Any suggestions would be great.

Cheers

One night in Helsinki? In January? Hmm. It is NOT the liveliest city in the world at that time of year. What date will you be there, and will you be around for any daylight hours? - not that there are many of those in January.

One thing that immediately springs to mind is open-air ice skating in Station Square.

Hi ya

Ice skating sounds pretty cool, I like the sound of that.

Just planning trip now so unsure of dates exactly, looking at all the ways to get there and back from Malaga. I see we can fly in/out of Tampere or Helsinki so theres all sorts of options and my Geography is getting a lot better!

We do know we are in Rovaniemi from 3-9 Jan so we will probably try have a night in either Tampere or Helsinki depending on trains or flights. So it would either be the 2nd Jan or the 9th Jan.

So not much daylight eh, we could ice skate in the twilight!

Another question are the trains affected by the weather in january with all the snow? Hope thats not a silly question, in NZ nearly everything shuts down when theres a bit of snow, Im sure its not the same there but just thought Id ask.

Thanks so much for help

Jo

Snow is normal and expected in Finland. A really heavy blizzard may slow things down but a small flurry is not the unexpected disaster for transport that it is in England, for example.

Don%26#39;t worry about daylight for ice skating. We have artificial lighting for it.
