Advance internet booking for Tallinn ferry?

Is advance internet booking for Tallinn ferry recommended?

Do they get full every day? I may be doing the trip on a Sunday, so should I book it Sat night? Planning on using TallinkSilja. Is the website good enough to handle online booking from USA?

Booking via the tallinksilja (http://www.tallinksilja.com/en/) site is very easy. Just click the %26quot;book your trip%26quot; button on the right hand side and the rest is easy.

I always book my ferrie trips to Talinn beforehand, it%26#39;s easy to do from home and you don%26#39;t have to go to the terminal too early. During the summertime the fast boats (especially the first ferries from Helsinki and the last ferries to Helsinki)

There%26#39;s no pressing reason to book in advance as there is practically always capacity, but if the sailing fits your schedule you might as well.

I sailed with Tallink for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed by the improvements. It%26#39;s a comfortable ship and it gets you there in a very reasonable two hours.

How early do they start boarding? How long before departure time is it recommended to be at the terminal?

Their websites will tell you that. They don%26#39;t board a whole lot before departure, but you need to be there in time to check in. There are often lines.

It is advisable to pay the bookings in advance (online with a credit card) as the shipping companies charge extra for paying for the booking in check-in or terminal on the day of travel. Nowadays also payments in their own booking offices often cost extra.

I tried, but it didnt accept a US credit card :(

On calling they said that I have to pay at check in since the online system only takes Finnish credit cards

Anyone else having had similar issues?

You could book and pay for your tickets when you arrive in Helsinki, since I assume you won%26#39;t be sailing to Tallinn immediately on arrival.

No I just tried Tallink. Will go and pay after reaching Helsinki. Yep, am not going directly to Estonia on arrival in Helsinki

No problem, then. There are enough ferries to choose from.
